Yes You Heard Correctly… RAW VEGAN Mince Pies….

When I was promoting having a Veggie Christmas a few years ago several journalists were so pleased to tell me that I was telling them to try Vegan MICE Pies…. I had to laugh…..

You know I am partial to a Mince Pie (or 2) – my hubby usually starts to buy or make some around September – however I feel it is something special for December only.

Now do yourself a favour. Do not go into your local super market and buy the plastic wrapped, made god knows when, white refined flour versions that are in abundance – these are not how Mince Pies should taste.

OK if you are a touch lazy or pushed for time like me then at least just buy some frozen pastry (most is vegan and actually says so!) and add in your own filling.

My top tip is to add a blob of (dairy free) cream cheese before adding the pie lid for even more loveliness.

If you want something even more amazing then yes we have it here from our great friend Rebecca Kane…..

Raw Mince Pies


For the ‘pastry’

2 cups of ground cashews

2 cups of ground almonds

1 ½ cups of medjool dates

1 Tbs of vanilla extract

Pinch of salt

For the filling

1 ½ cup of medjool dates

½ cup of raisins

Juice of 1 orange (½ cup)

1 apple chopped

1 tsp mixed spice


Food processor

Muffin tray

Cake cases


For the pastry

Place all of the ingredients in the processor and blend until the mixture becomes sticky.

Take ¼ cup of mixture and press into cake cases in the muffin tray

Place in the dehydrator for two hours and then remove from the tray and the cases and

dehydrate for a further 6 hours

For the filling

Add of all the ingredients to the food processor and process until well mixed

Add the mixture to the ‘pastry’ cases and serve.
